cool stuff

example 1
The link has a small band playing simple African songs. They band is dressed in what looks like traditional wear. They have a lead singer. This looks like it would be a lot of fun.

example 2
This video has ancient chanting which was a way of praying to the Native Americans. There is a guitar playing simple chords in the background while the flute ornaments the song. It has such a beautiful and peaceful sound.

example 3
This whole video is African drumming. I find this so fascinating. Last year at the music conference I took the African drumming class it was so much fun. In this video they are wearing traditional wear. It looks like they are playing random things that will make noise along with drums as well. I would love to get a group together at school and do this.

  1. I really like the fist video. It looks like a blast. I wish i could play a brass instrument or sax and be in something like this this. You know it kinda reminds me of SKA music.:) I did a native american flute video on my blog too:) I just love the sound of it. It's so peaceful. I remember taking that drum class too. The man taught us three different drumming patterns. After that class i really wanted one of those drums.

  2. Loved the second video. I've never been fond of the sound Native American flute, but this changed my mind. It was extremely relaxing. I think the guitar made it easier to listen to, and I felt a clear 4/4 meter, with the drum beating on beats 1 and the "&" of 2. I will look up more of this person's music.

  3. This is some fun stuff, Katie. I especially like the third video, and I'm so glad you all got to experience some drumming at SCMENC (I'm guessing that's the music conference you're referring to.)

The first two videos are interesting for the same reason--they show a blend of traditional music and more Western qualities.

Oh, and do be sure to proofread before you hit Post--typo in the second sentence.
